Castaways Resort at Mission Beach has a beautiful big house attached to the property, and if you’re having your wedding there you can book it to use for getting ready in the morning. That’s what I assumed was the case here.

But I discovered that Jemma & her family have been coming to Mission Beach for their family holidays for years – and they stay at this exact house. Not long after meeting Riley, he came along to join them on their vacations, too.

So it was so special to be able to get married on the bit of beach, right in front of the house where so many happy family memories have already been created. I love little stories like this – adding a deeper layer to the images that I capture.

Being a summertime wedding in Far North Queensland, the weather was always going to be a concern. Luckily Dad was out on the verandah with the BOM rain radar ticking away – and everything was looking good for the beachfront ceremony to go ahead.

A few hours later, Jemma & Riley were standing underneath the stunning tipi, having their hands wrapped in a beautiful hand-fasting knot tied by Jemma’s sister Julia. It’s going to be a cool keepsake to treasure for years to come 🙂

After the ceremony, we headed out for a few photos nearby – and wrapped up with some beautiful sunset colour in the skies. Even at this point, you could see the storms brewing out over the ocean – it looked like some wet weather was on the way. Luckily, the call had been made to setup the reception indoors – so when the rain eventually did arrive, nothing was affected – and we scored a few epic rain photos (getting rather wet in the process!).

Just before they kicked off the party on the dancefloor, a ‘cake’ of 6 tiers (and 6 different flavours!!) of macarons was the feature for dessert – it looked so awesome, and they tasted amazing too. Pro tip … if you want to ensure you get great dancefloor & party photos, just dose me up on sugar throughout the evening and I’ll be bouncing off the walls the entire night.

As the rain continued to pour down, the dancing continued on into the night – under the sparkle of the fairy lights on the tipi. You couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day – and I’m stoked I was there to capture it.
