Isaac proposed to Carla at Thala Beach last year – and afterwards, we revisited the same beach for an amazing engagement session with them.
If you haven’t seen their engagement photos – here’s the link – go check them out! It was the craziest tropical storm, and the most rainy, wet photos we’ve ever taken!
One thing that really impressed us was how keen they both were to just play in the rain with us – getting out there and embracing the elements.
We knew that when their wedding day rolled around, no matter the weather – these guys would take everything in their stride.
Still – I think everyone was relieved to wake up on the wedding day to stunning blue skies. One rainy photoshoot was enough for them!
In the morning, Amy headed over to hang out with Isaac and capture the boys getting ready. Their super cute sausage dogs were both involved in the day, complete with matching tutu & cute little puppy-suit – adorable!
One of the strongest themes running through the day was the importance of family. Isaac’s dad passed away when he was younger – and it was really special to see Sam standing by his side on the wedding day as best man. Sam was also Isaac’s father’s best man when he was married.
In the morning, Isaac surprised Sam by showing him the wedding ring – which had been reworked from his dad’s ring.
Carla’s bouquet had pins with photos attached of grandparents that weren’t able to be there with her. Everywhere you looked – these strong connections and family love ran so deep through the day – and it was really powerful to see.
Their ceremony on the lawn at Laloli was perfect for them – Tammy their celebrant is such an expert at really weaving each of their personalities into the ceremony and making it feel so intimate – while still being shared with all their favourite people.
The day before the wedding, I made the call to take the 1.5 hours round trip out to Laloli and do some final location scouting for their photo session. I already had a pretty good idea of where I wanted to shoot – and to be honest, I didn’t discover any new or amazing spots that I didn’t already know about.
BUT – because I visited at the exact same time of day we’d be shooting – I did notice that the sun dropped away behind the trees much earlier than I had anticipated it would. This meant we re-shuffled the order on the wedding day – and shortly after the ceremony, I whisked Carla & Isaac away for some off-site photos to make the most of the last rays of golden sunlight. Within 10 minutes of arriving at the location, the sun was gone completely!
So the location scouting definitely paid off – as usually I’d do all the bridal party photos around the grounds before heading away with just the bride & groom – and in this case, we would have missed out on some lovely light!
Back at Laloli, it was time to party!! The reception was so much fun – delicious food from Coral Coast Catering and the Vintage Van Co kept the drinks flowing all night.
Those beautiful clear skies stuck around too – and there was no moon – the perfect conditions for an epic star photo! We sneaked away for 5 minutes break during the reception to make the most of the milky way, rising above the Laloli treetops.
The grand finale was a sparkler exit as they left the reception and headed out to their waiting car – glasses of champagne unspilled!
This is just a little preview of the images we captured on their wedding day – at the end, you’ll find the slideshow which has a more comprehensive version of the day. Enjoy!
