Mount Quincan Retreat Wedding Photos | Tablelands wedding photographer
The wedding photo you see above is the amazing sunset Amy & Jarod scored on their wedding day. About halfway down this post, I’ve copy / pasted from the Instagram post I shared the next day with the behind-the-scenes thought process behind this sequence of images … it was a ride!
Mount Quincan Retreat is a stunning wedding venue on the Tablelands, just out of Yungaburra. Guests there can stay in beautiful treehouse cabins – and the views out over the Tablelands are spectacular!
On their wedding day, Amy & Jarod got ready in separate cabins – so it was easy for me to float between the two, capturing some images of their morning preparations. It was a super chill and relaxed vibe – my perfect kind of wedding morning.
The ceremony took place up on the hill, with the most epic view in the background of their arbour. Afterwards, we jumped into Jarod’s 4wd ute and made the trek up the bush track to the summit.
What ensured was one of the most crazy, doubting myself, sweaty palms, did I make the wrong call, moments of my career as a wedding photographer – but it all paid off. (whew).
Back to Mount Quincan for pizza & partying – what better combo huh?!
This is a little sneak preview of the day – enjoy.
Here’s the story from our Instagram post, about the incredible sunset … which refers to the next 5 photos below.
When we arrived at the Mount Quincan summit, a thick belt of heavy cloud was all across the sky – still lovely soft light … but I had a feeling that eventually, the sun would peek underneath & shine through.
The problem was – it would take a good 30 minutes … and mean that we didn’t have time for any other locations – we would be putting all the eggs into this one hunch of a basket.
I decided to trust my instinct (and they in turn trusted me)… and we waited.
The first image in this set was how it looked when we arrived … 5.02pm.
2nd image – we stated to see rays shimmering over the horizon. I knew it was coming… 5.37pm.
3rd image – the light was now creeping over the fields and hills in the distance. I was getting super excited … 5.44pm
4th image … boom. Sunlignt arrives. We are bathed in epicness. 5.47pm.
Last image – this was just as the sun dipped below the hills and disappeared. 5.48pm.
All that time on top of the hill, for 4 minutes of insane glory.
Worth it? Hell yes.
Was I scared that I had blown it & we would end up waiting for nothing? Of course.
At the end of the day – just need to trust your gut.
Once we reached the bottom of the hill – we had time for a super quick few shots on the dirt road in front of the retreat … but by this time it was almost dark, so it was a very short stop!
